The Podcast
Nobody knows what a change means while it is still happening.
We decide anyway. In the middle of it, holding the least information we will ever have, we settle on what it meant — and then we live as though that were true.
I Was Sure is one conversation with one person far enough past a hard change to tell both versions: what they were certain of at the time, and what they know now. A career that ended. A marriage that moved. A diagnosis, a city, a plan that quietly stopped being the plan.
No gurus. No five-step frameworks. No pretending the hard part was secretly a gift the whole time. Just the distance between what someone was sure of and what turned out to be true — which is where everything useful lives.

I've spent thirty years in technology, building and leading partner sales teams across Fortune 50 companies and startups. After seventeen years at Cisco I left for a security startup — and two years later Cisco acquired us and brought me back. That whiplash taught me the thing I've built a career on since: the urgency of a startup paired with the scale of a giant. An eight-hundred-pound gorilla, up on the balls of its feet.
The second shift was personal. This past year my wife and I left North Carolina for New York — chasing a dream later in life than most people would call sensible. It cracked open every part of our lives: the work, the opportunities, and a marriage that got reinvigorated by the risk of it. Today I'm a partner sales executive in enterprise technology, and I host a business podcast called Shift Happens. I Was Sure is the one I make on my own time — same curiosity, wider lens. Shift Happens is the business conversation. This one is the human one.
